The agricultural crossroads of the Central Pacific

The Place

Orotina is the agricultural town at the junction where the road from the Central Valley meets the highway to the Central Pacific coast. Known as the 'City of Fruits,' it is surrounded by mango, cashew, and citrus plantations and hosts a busy roadside market selling fresh tropical fruit.

For Macaw Crest residents, Orotina is the practical pivot point between San José (via the Route 27 highway) and the coast. It has gas stations, hardware stores, and the turnoff for the scenic mountain road that climbs up to Bijagual — the route most owners take from the international airport.

The town itself is unhurried and authentic, a working agricultural center rather than a tourist stop. The roadside fruit market is a ritual: a stop for fresh mangoes, cashews, and coconuts on the way home from the airport or a day in the city.
